The Tiga SC79 heralded the start of Tiga's golden reign over the British Sports 2000 Championship. Representing little more than a body update over the unfancied SC78  it none the less dominated the British championship thanks to a new collaboration with 1976 FF2000 champion and Thruxton based race school boss Ian Taylor.  Ian Taylor Racing became not only a works supported team (full works teams were banned under a gentleman’s agreement between the manufacturers) but also took on the distribution of the Tiga Sports 2000 chassis in the U.K.
Taylor became champion and in a reversal of the 1978 season Tiga won all bar one of the twenty British championship rounds the clean sweep being prevented by Desire Wilson's single victory in a Lola T492 at Oulton Park.
