Sports 2000 came into being in 1977, the brain child of John Webb at Brands Hatch who having seen the dwindling grids and eventual demise of the 2.0L Group 6 Sportscar series due to high costs was moved to create a cost controlled alternative using a low cost production derived version of the Ford Pinto engine already proven in FF2000. There was immediate enthusiasm for the concept which led to dozens of models from we reckon around 15 manufacturers in the 1977 to 1990 period.
